I am driving an Automatic 2001 Hyundai Elantra w/125K miles on it. My problems happened very recently, my car dies randomly while driving w/out any sputtering. The first time it died I was accelerating from a light and the 2nd time I was braking for a stop sign. The car gives no indication its going to die (it doesn't run rough or anything like that). I have been very lucky that I have been able to either veer or push my car into a parking lot. After it dies and I try to start it again it sounds like its going to start but never turns over. It will usually start (pretty rough) after about 15mins so I have been able to limp it home. My question is, what could be causing this? I know it's not battery or alternator. I know the simple thing would be to take it in but as I said my car has 125k and I'm trying to decide if the repairs are worth it as I do need to change my timing belt, get new tires, new brakes, water pump, and fix a small valve cover leak if I plan to keep my car for any extended period of time. Could this be a fuel pump issue? I don't want to have to pay a tow to garage just to find out I'm going to junk my car anyway. I'd appreciate any ideas, Thank you! car insurance. Mitsubishi . How to Clay Bar Your AutoEven after washing your vehicle You can usually spot dirt. the small particles imbedded in the paint that wont budge with soap and water can be easily removed in a couple simple steps. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need clay bar glass cleaner Step by Step : 1 First of all, you will need to wash your vehicle to remove the heavy dirt. It will not be necessary to dry your car or truck. 2 Once you're ready to remove the small particles, grab your clay bar and glass cleaner. Glass cleaner is safe on paint and is used with the clay bar by professionals in the auto detailing industry. Spray the area you're going to clay three to four times. The surface will need to be saturated to provide a nice glide. Immediately after spraying area, use the clay bar in a softball size circular motion, much like washing a window. As you run the clay bar against the paint, use your other hand to follow behind. Make sure to keep the surface wet throughout the process. You will feel when the debris is removed. The clay bar will also move smoother and faster as you're done with each area. Each area will only take seconds. Once you have finished claying your auto, you will need to rinse it well. 3 Use whatever method you prefer to dry. When you're finished, you should see a dramatic difference in the paint's appearance.
Mitsubishi . How to Remove Paint Gun Paint From a CarRemoving paint ball paint from you car is a lot easier task than removing common house and auto paints. That is because paint ball paint is made from water-soluble ingredients that can easily be washed away when the paint is wet. If the paint ball paint has dried, you can still remove it by following a few extra steps. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need WD-40 Car Wash Soap 4 Microfiber Rags Car WaxRemoving Paint Ball Paint from Car Step by Step : 1 Soak a microfiber rag in soap and water. Use it to scrub the area where the paint has settled, removing any loose paint. 2 Remove the excess water from the paint spot and liberally spray WD-40 onto the paint that is remaining on the car. 3 Wait five minutes for the WD-40 to soak into the paint. Carefully wipe off the paint using a fresh microfiber rag. 4 Using your soap and water, rewash the area to clean any remaining paint debris and dirt from the car. 5 Once the now-clean area on your car is dry, apply car wax using a clean microfiber rag. Buff when the wax has dried. Tips & Warnings When washing the paint ball paint off with your rag in Step 1, be sure to clean the rag often to avoid scratching your car. You may need to use a little elbow grease to remove the paint during Steps 1 and 3. This is OK as long as you clean your rag or use a clean area of the rag to avoid scratching the car. It is important to wax your car to protect it from the elements. By cleaning the paint ball paint from your car, you will remove the wax from your car in that area. You will then only need to wax this area. *v* Standard and Phillips screwdrivers: In assorted sizes. You can find pictures of both types in Chapter 2. v* A screwholder: This tool is optional, but excellent for working in a small space like a distributor. Because it holds onto the screw until you release it, a screwholder cuts down on the chances of your dropping the screw into the works. It makes it easier to operate in the relatively tight distributor area because you don't have to cram your fingers in to hold onto the screw. (See Chapter 2 for a picture of a screwholder.) u* A small set of basic socket wrenches that includes a ratchet handle and a spark plug socket: Chapter 2 tells you what these look like and how to buy them. v* Combination wrenches: You can buy only the sizes you need to work on your distributor, but a small set of basic sizes is useful for a variety of home and automotive tasks. You can see how to buy and use combination wrenches in (you guessed it) Chapter 2. »-" A tach/dwell meter: This dual-purpose gadget (refer to Figures 12-42 through 12-44) not only has a dwell meter for measuring your point gap, but it also has a tachometer for measuring the revolutions per minute (rpm) of your engine, a function that's extremely valuable if you need to adjust your carburetor so that it idles properly. If you're going to buy a tach/dwell meter, look for one that has both high and low ranges on the tachometer, which can give you a more precise reading. (Because you won't need this very often, you may want to borrow one.) Don't let the lack of a dwell meter keep you from tuning your car! This chapter tells you how to do the job quite well with feeler gauges. I recommend a dwell meter because it's more accurate and can also help you adjust your carburetor (if your vehicle has one), but you can definitely live without one. u* A timing light: A timing light is a specialized piece of equipment that you use to check ignition timing on vehicles with non-electronic ignitions (refer to Figure 12-45). Because you won't need this tool very often, think about borrowing one from someone in your neighborhood who works on an older vehicle or has an old timing light. 208 Part "l: Kee Pin9 Your Car in Good Condition, System by System If you decide to buy a timing light, keep in mind that, generally, the more you pay, the brighter the light is. Neon lights are the cheapest, but because they operate off the spark plug circuit and use minimal voltage, they may not produce enough light for you to see clearly unless you work in almost total darkness. Xenon lights cost more but provide more light. I suggest that you buy a cheap light, try it out, return it, and buy the next more expensive one until you get what you need. When you look for a timing light, be sure that the cord is long enough and that the clamps are properly insulated so that you can grab them easily without getting shocked. The light should go on and off with a strobe effect when the clamps are properly affixed. When you shine the light at the timing marks on the moving crankshaft pulley of your engine, this strobe effect makes the marks appear to stand still so that you can see whether you have tuned your car properly. I go into the proper way to use this gadget and explain what timing really means later in this chapter. 481

To obtain the specs for your particular vehicle, you need the following information. All this information should be in your owner's manual, and most of it is also printed on metal tags or decals located inside your hood. You can usually find these in front of the radiator, inside the fenders, on the inside of the hood — anywhere the auto manufacturer thinks you'll find them. I know of one car that has its decal inside the lid of the glove compartment. These ID tags also give a lot of other information about where the vehicle was made, what kind of paint it has, and so on, but don't worry about that information right now. The engine displacement: How much room there is in each cylinder when the piston is at its lowest point. (For example, a 300-cubic inch 6-cylinder engine has a displacement of 50 cubic inches in each cylinder.) The bigger the displacement, the more fuel and air the cylinders in the engine hold. . Chapter 12: Keeping Your Electrical System in Tune Engines on older cars may be listed in cubic inches, such as 302, 350, 454, and so on. Newer cars may be listed in liters (1.8, 2.3, 5.9) or cubic centimeters (2200, 3400, 3800). V0 The kind of fuel system: If your engine has a carburetor, you need to know how many carburetor barrels it has. It may be a 1-barrel, 2-barrel, or 4-barrel carburetor. ("Barrel" may be abbreviated as "bbl" on some specifications.) If your engine is fuel-injected, you may need to know whether your car has throttle body injection or multi-port injection. (Chapter 6 makes sense of this stuff.) V Whether the vehicle has air conditioning. It's necessary to take this into account when buying certain parts, but not usually spark plugs or distributor tune-up parts. Understanding tune-up specifications Your owner's manual may have specifications for everything you need for a basic tune-up. If you don't have an owner's manual, or if yours lacks the necessary data, you can go to an auto supply store and use a general "Tune-Up Specification Guide" (called a "spec sheet" for short). These guides are either in pamphlet form or printed on large sheets that are displayed near the parts section of the store (see Figure 12-1). If you can't find a spec sheet at the store, ask a salesperson to show it to you. Mitsubishi . What do the kilometer markers look like?
